Structured Abstract

Background. Diabetic ketoacidosis (DKA) remains a significant cause of morbidity and mortality in resource-limited settings. Limited contemporary data exist on DKA outcomes in South African public healthcare facilities.
Objectives. To determine the clinical profile, precipitating factors, and outcomes of adult patients admitted with DKA at a tertiary hospital in Gauteng Province.
Methods. A retrospective cross-sectional study reviewing medical records of patients aged ≥18 years admitted with DKA between January 2022 and December 2023.
